Drawing on eyewitness accounts, it depicts the chaos of the landing, bombardments, the first days on the island, constant air attacks, and the defense of the airstrip. Special focus is given to the night battle at Tenaru, where the Marines repelled the Ichiki Detachment’s assault. The story concludes with the broader outcome of the campaign: heavy Japanese losses and the shift of initiative in the Pacific War to the Allies
