Sterlite plant to be opened in 2 months Sterlite CEO P Ramnath tamil news live
Chennai, Dec 20 Sterlite CEO P Ramnath on Thursday said the Copper Smelter Plant at
Tuticorin would be opened in two months after getting clearance from the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) and the State government.
Talking to reporters here, he said the company, armed with the National Green Tribunal (NGT)order, directing opening of the plant, had already approached the TNPCB and the Tamil Nadu government seeking permission for re-opening the plant, which was closed through a GO after the Anti-sterlite protests turned violent on May 22.
He said based on the recommendations of the expert committee headed by Tarun Agarwal, the NGT had on December 15 ordered opening of the plant.
Passing orders on an appeal filed by the Vedanta Limited against the GO, a Bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel had set aside the GO and termed the closure as unjustifiable.
