Conquering Polio: Pittsburgh and the Salk Vaccine

Описание к видео Conquering Polio: Pittsburgh and the Salk Vaccine

On April 12, 1955, Jonas Salk announced to the world that his polio vaccine worked. And while most Pittsburghers know that Salk did all his research and testing right here, there is much more to the Pittsburgh story. It was Pittsburgh blood, literally, that saved the world from the horror of polio. Stacy Smith takes us behind the scenes and into the research labs in this 30-minute documentary that includes rare archival footage from the 1950s. (Original WQED premiere: April 17, 2005.)
