Our original song, S.O.A., which stands for "Sons of Anarchy," is a song written with the feeling and visuals of rock, metal, motorcycles, big scary dudes, and just sheer bad-assery. (Is that a word? Probably not, but you catch my drift.) Something we want to do with Simply Three is to show that string instruments are the most versatile instruments in the world. They can play any genre of music. I’m sure you all know this already, but there aren't many (if any) rock songs written for violin, cello, and bass. So we set off to write our own rock-inspired songs, and one of them was S.O.A. This song started with the first rock groove you hear played by the cello and the bass. Nick wrote this lick and the chords for the verses, and that was the inception! There weren't any melodies in the beginning, and we didn’t really hear any melodies really fitting with the hook at first. We just heard this song as a pure jam session. With that in mind, we each wrote an improv solo over each verse progression. So I guess you could say this is a rock and blues inspired song. It’s one of our favorites to play live!
