Red Rum Returns Home a Hero After Third Grand National Win (1977)

In April 1977, equestrian legend Red Rum returned home to Southport after winning the Grand National for the third time in his career. In winning the race for the third time, the Irish champion Thoroughbred steeplechaser achieved a historic treble which remains unmatched to this day. A 2002 UK poll voted Red Rum's historic third victory in the Grand National as the 24th greatest sporting moment in history.
