I need your advice for Python programming for beginners.

You could go to Python dot org slash about slash gettingstarted for the basics on how to install the software to program in Python, if it is not already installed on your computer

I’d like something closer to Python for stupid people, than skimming the thousand pages of documentation there.

Sthurlow dot com slash python has some tutorials on how to program in Python aimed at those who know nothing about it. The goal is to let you create scripting for the game Civilization, but you can use the skills anywhere.

Like creating mods for other games by Firaxis.

So go to the Code Academy track for Python. It has a thirteen hour course on Python for beginners.

Can I afford it?

Code Academy is free. And it has basic lessons after you’ve learned the syntax like creating a tip calculator.

Aimed at the liberal arts majors learning Python to do something financially rewarding.

LearnPython dot org has not only basic tutorials on Python, but an interactive tutorial where you can enter Python commands into the simulator to practice it without having to set up the IDE.

That’s about my level. I do not want to have to figure out how to set up the IDE before trying to program, and then wonder what exactly is causing the issue.

That site has lessons from the classic hello world to exception handling.

I just need to learn the basics and then practice, and more practice.

So try Code Combat, where you control a character using Python commands, though they have modules for playing the games in JavaScript too.

Are they teaching you how to create games with Python?

No, you direct the character and solve in game puzzles with Python. However, if you really need to get good at using the right syntax to answer the challenge to kill the ogre, you’ll be able to remember the right command on command when coding.

I want to use a resource that I would not mind putting on my resume.

So do the TutorialsPoint dot com site. They are a good Python programming for beginners resource for learning the basics of the language, though they have tutorials up through the advanced level too.

Being able to stay with one site while working on the language is certainly easier.

You could try Learning Python the Hard Way books and website too.

I’d rather learn from the mistakes of others than repeat them myself. And I think those people recommending it just want to see me fall down the learning curve too, so I’ll try one of the sites you recommended.
