Why I Don't Recommend Quant Finance to Finance Grads

Описание к видео Why I Don't Recommend Quant Finance to Finance Grads

As the finance industry is evolving, it has been clear for years that quantitative skills are taking over most of the traditional finance roles that were analytical. Business programs and people on the outside looking in think since the word "finance" is in the topic of "quantitative finance" and you're JUST doing finance at a deeper level...why not learn a few things and become a quantitative finance professional? The problem is that these jobs require someone with a 4 year undergraduate degree in a quantitative field such as math, stats, or engineering along with either a Masters or PhD in a quantitative field. If you have your heart set on quantitative finance, are willing to be trained academically for an entire new career, and are willing to make large sacrifices to catch up to the STEM students...then going from finance to quant finance is possible but not likely.

Keeping a realistic view is important when making decisions that are life changing and will cost you $60-100k. As much as I want to encourage people to join the quantitative finance industry, I also don't want to mislead people into thinking it's something that it's not. There is nothing worse than working on a many year goal to find out that what you got wasn't what you expected. I have seen many upset students drop out of school (a variety of degrees), graduate unemployed, or work a year or two and then completely leave the industry. THE GOAL OF THIS VIDEO IS NOT TO TELL YOU WHAT YOU CAN AND CAN'T DO. The goal of this video and my entire channel is to show you what it's really like in the quantitative finance industry.
