The Harz Mountain Railway - Germany | 6th - 10th February 2023

Well this was certainly a big tick off on the bucket list. The week of the 6th to the 10th of February 2023 was spent filming at the Harz Mountain Railway in central Germany, famous for having Steam Locomotives as their main source of motive power.

This metre gauge network of lines runs for 140km through the Harz National Park. The spectacular scenery has lead to the line becoming primarily a tourist attraction (particularly to the summit of Broken), hence the long standing steam dynasty.

This timing of this visit was based around the prospect of snow being the main feature of the week, and it was out in force. The winter timetable of the system is less than half of what the summer has to offer, but with no less than 6 steam locomotives in action across the network, it was still worth the time and effort.

This feature length video shows the action across five days with a heavy focus on the Wernigerode to Broken section, but that's where the snow was. Many thanks to the company of ‪@82AStudios‬ and co. whose knowledge of the system made the visit all the more spectacular. No doubt the Harz will feature on this channel again in the future.
