Is Hermosa Beach the best beach town in Los Angeles?

We'll drive through downtown Hermosa Beach and the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) passing by many local attractions, shops, restaurants and hotels. We also tour the residential Hermosa Beach neighborhoods: the Sand Section, East Hermosa Beach (aka the Hermosa Hills), and Hermosa Valley.

ABOUT HERMOSA BEACH

Hermosa Beach is one of the three Los Angeles South Bay Beach Cities. The other two Beach Cities are Manhattan Beach, located to the north of Hermosa Beach, and Redondo Beach CA, located to the south and east of Hermosa Beach.

The city's beach is popular for sunbathing, beach volleyball, surfing, paddle boarding, cycling and running.

The city itself extends only about 15 blocks from east to west and 40 blocks from north to south, with Pacific Coast Highway running down the middle.

Pier Avenue is the main street through downtown Hermosa Beach and features many shops and restaurants.

Not surprisingly, at the end of Pier Avenue, you'll find the Hermosa Beach Pier. The section of Pier Avenue leading up to the Pier is closed to automobile traffic - as are some of the residential streets which are called "walk streets".

The movie La La Land was filmed in part at the Lighthouse Cafe on Pier Avenue and the Hermosa Beach Pier.

if you are thinking of moving to Hermosa Beach, the weather is great and much better than elsewhere in Los Angeles. Sea breezes lessen what can be high summertime temperatures in downtown Los Angeles and elsewhere in the county. And you'll find less smog because of the westerly winds.

A paved path, called The Strand, runs along Hermosa's beach from Torrance Beach in the south approximately twenty miles north to Santa Monica.

HERMOSA BEACH REAL ESTATE

Hermosa Beach has some of the most interesting - and most expensive, beach homes in Southern California. The 90254 zip code is one of the most expensive in the United States.

There are many different property types in Hermosa Beach: Single Family Residences (houses), Townhomes, condos, duplexes, triplexes, and apartments. There are many different options for buyers and renters.

In general, the further west (closer to the beach) homes are, the more expensive the price or the rent. One of the reasons Hermosa Beach homes are so desirable is because of the city's small size, most of it is walkable or an easy bike ride to the beach, and even homes east of PCH may have views. Hermosa Beach has retained its small town beach vibe even and much of it hasn't changed in the last 20 years.

Homes on The Strand are very expensive as are homes on Hermosa Beach walkstreets. The "Sand Section", which is the neighborhood closest to the beach is the most expensive. There are some affordable condo options west of PCH along the Valley Ardmore trail.

East Hermosa Beach, which I refer to in the video as the Hermosa Hills, is a unique neighborhood and offers great value.
