1 year ago! On December 15, 2021, I defended my Ph.D. thesis titled "Low-frequency Absorbing Acoustic Metasurfaces: Deep-learning Approach and Experimental Demonstration". A Ph.D. defense is always both an official and a festive occasion. After restless days and nights of hard work, I wanted to make my Ph.D. defense day even more memorable. However, it was not the same as it was held somewhere during the pandemic, which will forever trigger memories of writing and defending my thesis. Rules were uncertain and were changed just a day before. Finally, French Government allowed it in a Hybrid manner with limited guests.

Only slowly I begin to realize that it’s done: I am a doctor now! Years of hard work toward a successful defense had never felt better! A big shout out to my friends and seniors who helped me remain sane during this journey. I would certainly not be where I stand today without the unconditional and everlasting support from my family. They have been there for me consistently through all times.

Foremost, my greatest gratitude for the work presented in this thesis goes to my thesis director Prof. Badreddine Assouar for entrusting me with this opportunity and for his help, advice, and continuous guidance over the last three years. I gratefully acknowledge his suggestions and comments on my thesis which are invaluable to the quality of this dissertation. I would like to especially thank Dr. Yifan Zhu for continuously helping me from the very beginning to the end of my Ph.D. thesis. I could not have asked for one better. Also, thanks to all my colleagues (Team 407, Métamatériaux et Phononique) and other friends whom I have worked with over my Ph.D. time at Institut Jean Lamour (IJL) and who have shared their knowledge and skills with me. I am very grateful to the Ph.D. committee for their thoughtful feedback and scholarly conversation during the defense. Despite all the restrictions and roller coaster periods, it was a fantastic event at the end of an ambitious and exciting research journey.
