What is a sample slab? Whenever NGC or PCGS redesign their slabs, they produce prototypes. These prototypes are called "sample slabs." Sample slabs are produced in small numbers. Their scarcity makes them popular with collectors. Sample slabs are distinguished from regular slabs because they're designated as "sample" on the label. Most sample slabs lack a grade.
