Throttle Position Sensor Testing On BMW R Series Motorcycles

Описание к видео Throttle Position Sensor Testing On BMW R Series Motorcycles

The throttle position sensor, which BMW calls a "throttle valve switch," is an important input for the ECU. You'll find one installed on fuel injected bikes like the R1200RT, R1200GS, R1250RT, R1250GS and even older bikes like the R1100 and R1150 series. It helps the computer understand what the rider is trying to do by converting the mechanical action of the throttle into an electrical signal. When the TPS is faulty, you may find symptoms such as a rough or hunting idle, unexplained jerky acceleration, sudden drops in engine RPM, or a lack of power. That's because the computer is confused about the position of the throttle. Often the TPS will wear out in the area where you use the throttle most, causing data drop outs in that common RPM range.

The throttle position sensor is super easy to test using common multimeters, which I demonstrate here. I'll also show how you can use the live data display of your GS-911 scan tool to see how the TPS is functioning.
