What is studying physics in Germany like?

Описание к видео What is studying physics in Germany like?

My thoughts on how to get into and through university in Germany and study physics. So, my view here is very very focused on that degree. I don't really talk in general terms, but I will not preface each statement with "This in my opinion". You as adults should anticipate that instead of assuming a 100% validiy generalization whenever you disagree with 1% of what I said and immediately feel like you want to type out a 2-paragraph. Suppress that urge and get a life instead. Not your monkeys, not your circus. I mean it. Go outside, please.

NB. University experiences are different, but really... come on... not that different. So while my experience might vary from yours, neither is "the correct one". That kind of beef is stupid and unworthy of a trained physicist. Don't even start that nonsense, I won't dignify "but in my city" and other dull individualism arguments with an answer.

NB 2. I must note that I basically went to a super ultra uber-theoretically orientated uni, and there are a lot of those now, especially with the rise of simulations in TP. I would not do that again, just because I don't think it's healthy to have no life apart from uni. But it is a super good education nonetheless. So choose wisely!

8:10 PhD stuff
10:45 The horror of homework (both for PhD students and undergrads)
13:58 Do I recommend studying in Germany? Personal thoughts...

Do I recommend physics to everyone? Obviously not. Those subjects are nice because the faculty is small. Of course I don't want everyone to study what I studied. Ew. Go away.

Apart from that? Yes. It's the most awesome subject, I hope my kid does the same. It's awesome, there is no better thing, boom! Of course I recommend it.

Germany...? Hm. IDK, haven't seen anything else, so I really can't tell. I think Germany is not as hard as French universities, not as competitive after all. And I would guess that Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands are even more chill. The bigger the city, the harder it is to study. But the more friends you will make too.

Anyway, whatever you decide, please just don't go to a Bavarian uni. In Bavaria, unis are extremely underfunded, everything is just rotting away at this point. In our lecture building it would rain inside in winter. It's just not fun, even though everyone is making light of it, but that's dark humor, nothing more. I am not joking, it absolutely is that bad and has been for decades. If you wan't luxury, go to Heidelberg. It's okay there. But Bavaria, stay away! Don't give them your time and money, they will not thank you.
