The Wreck of the Tiles - Chrisoula K in Red Sea

On the ‪@BlueHorizonDiving‬ Red Sea trip 2024, we explored the SS Chrisoula K shipwreck. This shipwreck is affectionately known as the wreck of the tiles. The wreck truly lived up to it's name and was a true gem of the trip.

History:

The Chrisoula K, laden with large patio-type floor tiles from Italy to Jeddah, met its fate in August 1981 when it collided with Sha’ab Abu Nuhas Reef while leaving the Gulf of Suez. Abandoned as a total loss, the ship eventually settled on the seabed. Diving the Chrisoula K reveals broken bows atop the reef, possibly from this ship or the Kimon M. The wreck's main body is mostly upright, with No. 1 and No. 2 holds still holding cargo. Accessible areas include the intact bridge deck and intriguing engine room. The stern's port side is twisted over to starboard, and the rear decks feature accommodation blocks and maritime equipment. The propeller and rudder lie at 26 meters depth. Suitable for divers of all levels, this wreck offers shallow exploration for novices and deeper penetration for experienced divers. Despite claims to the contrary, overwhelming evidence confirms this wreck's identity as the Chrisoula K.
