Authorities had already issued a high-danger avalanche warning a day earlier as heavy snowfall continued across higher-altitude regions. The incident came amid widespread disruption in the Valley, with Srinagar airport cancelling all 58 flights, the Jammu-Srinagar highway shut, and train services temporarily affected. As rescue agencies remain on alert, the Sonamarg avalanche has become a chilling reminder of how quickly calm mountain weather can turn deadly during Kashmir’s harsh winter.
