We are the Brien family of Capital on the Edge... We were sent out in 2008 by our home Church, Capital Edge Community Church in Canberra, Australia (CapitalEdge.org.au), to be missionaries in Latin America.
We now live in Nicaragua, Central America, the poorest Spanish Speaking Country in the World. We are currently serving a community full-time, near Cedro Galan (just outside of Managua). Our goal is to start a school and an orphanage in February of 2012.
This Christmas, we are asking people to give to our Christmas Drive. This video, of poor quality, shows us out-and-about in the Mercado Oriental, one of the biggest and most dangerous markets in all of Latin America. We're hunting down toys, to give as Christmas presents to the 100 children in our local community.
Please consider Giving to the Nicaraguan child this Christmas. Children in our local community are suffering due to a lack of adequate health care, education and sufficient healthy food. Whilst we are working on longer-term solutions to these problems, we are unable to do much this Christmas without your help. Just a $5 donation can buy a Nicaraguan kid a chicken, which gives them enough protein for their daily requirement. $10 can buy a Nicaraguan child a toy, making this Christmas stand-out as a special time in their life when somebody cared. $20 can buy a Nicaraguan child enough multi-vitamin tablets to last for months and months (1 in 5 Nicaraguan kids have stunted growth, due to deficiencies in their diet).
To donate, please visit our paypal link, via our blog, and in the description field, enter "Christmas Drive". http://capital-on-the-edge.blogspot.c...
We will make a video of your child opening their gift, this Christmas, and place it on Youtube.
We are also in need of monthly support. If you would like to support our work then please visit us at http://capital-on-the-edge.blogspot.c...
Issues within our local community tend to revolve around the cycle of poverty, a lack of access to quality education, inadequate healthcare services, teen pregnancies, high unemployment, and other poverty related issues. Please pray for the people of Cedro Galan. They desperately need your prayers.
