Acclaimed composer and musician Max Richter spent over two years writing Sleep, an eight-hour opus made up of more than 200 movements. He started exploring the idea as early as 1995, and his “personal lullaby for a frenetic world”, as he describes it, was conceived with his collaborator and partner, BAFTA-winning filmmaker Yulia Mahr. A deeply personal exploration of a piece that offers a deeply intimate, reflective, unique and unifying experience, this film follows the journey and the process behind the monumental work, traces the story of Richter and Mahr, incorporating live performance footage as well as personal anecdotes from audience members at an open-air concert performance in downtown Los Angeles.
