Today's Mythbusting Monday specifically tackles bacteria concerns in raw food.

🥩 Commercial raw pet food is required by the FDA to be completely free of pathogens including E. coli, salmonella, and listeria. This rule applies to all commercially sold pet food including kibble, canned, and fresh foods.

🥩 Raw pet food companies use a variety of methods to kill harmful bacteria and help ensure food safety like High Pressure Pasteurization, Fermentation, and "Test and Hold" techniques that require a clean lab check before the food even leaves the manufacturing facility.

🥩 Our dog's digestive systems are more adept to handle the presence of bacteria than we are. One study found that 36% of dogs tested were carriers of salmonella bacteria, regardless of what kind of food they were fed.
Note: This isn't to say that the bacteria is not a potential health hazard. Safe handling and feeding practices should still be used when feeding raw.
