🎤 TOEFL Speaking Task 1: Listen & Repeat — Overview

In TOEFL Speaking 2026, Task 1 is called Listen & Repeat.

Here’s how it works on the real test:

• A narrator introduces a short scenario (usually campus or daily life)
• You then hear 7 sentences, one at a time
• You hear each sentence only once
• You do not see the text
• After each sentence, you have about 10–12 seconds to repeat it
• Sentences usually become slightly longer and more complex as the task continues

This task does not test your ideas or opinions. ETS is scoring:

Pronunciation clarity

Accurate word order

Natural rhythm and stress

Your ability to speak automatically under time pressure

Small mistakes are okay. What hurts your score more is hesitating, restarting, or going silent.
