Asics Metaride - First Run

Описание к видео Asics Metaride - First Run

I've had the opportunity to take an early look at the Asics Metaride, a $250 shoe incorporating the best of what Asics has to offer. I didn't get a lot of information ahead of time on this shoe, so this is a bit of a blind read.

The shoe has a dual layer of FlyteFoam, with an area of Asics Gel in the heel. The upper features a highly breathable and overall well executed knit material, and the heel is both heavily structued and heavily padded. The tongue is also heavily padded, and there is an extensive amount of lacing.

The dual layer midsole also has cut outs or channels. The first goes across the shoe, under the arch of the foot. The other starts in the forefoot and tucks into a tunnel ending at the heel of the shoe. It looks bizarre and feels as unique as it looks, as there is also a substantial toe drop off sensation due to a rocker type construction.

With the rocker and the price tag, I initially thought this might be a race day shoe. But the shoe is quite heavy, and I don't think that it's sweet spot is at your faster paces. While there is a pleasant springiness when you're on your toes in this shoe, it takes a lot of effort to get there. Rather, this shoe seems to shine when you're running heel to toe. Then, the shoe becomes much more fluid. I feel like I'm working with the shoe when I'm more heel-toe running.

I would probably recommend this shoe to those who are looking for a long distance shoe with a larger toe box and more cushion. But at this price point, I'm not sure that I can. And so it feels to me like this is a bit of a concept shoe - something to showcase what Asics can achieve. And I hope that this will lead to exciting developments in future Asics shoes.
