'Expect the Unexpected' Three Decades Personal Experience ... Structural Integrity Requirements

Presented by Simon Brittle, Assistant Chief Engineer at Rolls-Royce Submarines, this webinar discusses Simon's experience of unexpected issues and unintended consequences, which could present a threat to structural integrity of high value components and systems.

High integrity components and systems are widely used in nuclear, oil and gas, chemical processing and other sectors. The topic of Structural Integrity (SI) is fundamental to the safe design, manufacture, maintenance and operation of high value assets in these highly regulated sectors. SI can be described as a full understanding of the boundary conditions between safety and the failure of engineering components and structures. Meeting SI requirements can place heavy cost and time burdens on projects, but will also deliver safe and reliable performance for components and systems operating in arduous conditions for extended periods.

This event will share personal learning from experience gathered over 3 decades working in the nuclear industry. It will focus on how issues with the communication and delivery of SI requirements can lead to unexpected events and unintended consequences, such as degraded safety or reliability performance, cost increase or schedule delays. Participants at this event will benefit from the experiences shared which will highlight typical risk areas and measures that can be adopted to reduce the risk of unexpected events and unintended consequences.
