This dulcimer meditation / intuitive improvisation is in Indian alaap style. Alaap is more or less the Indian word for intro. An Indian classical dhrupad concert start always with an alaap, which is the meditative part of the concert. Alaap is without any rhythmic rules and comes pure from the feeling and the heart. A very intuitive part of a performance. This improvisation has a lot of bending techniques on the strings which can create the typical Indian technique of playing halftones and microtones.
After the alaap intro follows a short rhythmic part.

Seagull guitars made this wonderful instrument several years ago and called it the Merlin. It is a dulcimer with the shape of a small guitar. It has 4 strings, but the 2 thinnest strings are very close to each other and they are played together as one string. So actually you have 2 strings and 1 double string. This dulcimer is tuned to D - A - D - D, which gives us an open D tuning. There is much space between the 3 strings which is very good for the bending technique and playing micro notes. You can hear that in several places in this improvisation.
The sound from the dulcimer is acoustic. So you hear the pure sound from the instrument without amplification. The tuning is in 432 Hertz tuning.
