This week we're gonna be digging deep into how we can use the good old major scale to play over chord changes. In order to give our lines the bebop sound we want, we'll be making use of Barry Harris' rules for adding half steps to descending lines.
Just like in the dominant scale video, we'll first go over the rules and how to apply them to the scale. Then, I'll show you some exercises for practicing these through the entire scale. In addition to just playing the rules through the scale, we'll also go over how to apply these concepts to the diatonic chords contained in the scale.
I'll show you guys some unique exercises and ways to practice using the rules to resolve to a tonic major so that you can implement these ideas over a variety of different chord progressions that are super common in Jazz. Finally, we'll put everything together into an etude over the chord changes to the standard, "Just Friends."
