On the Duleep Singh Sikh Heritage Trails with the Sri Damesh Malaysian Sikh Pipe Band. The day had a number of firsts as the Sikhs and Scots celebrated their history and culture together.
They contacted us four years previously on their first visit to Scotland, because of the connection of the Rattrays a Perthshire Clan and the Sikhs, more specifically Captain Thomas Rattray in 1856 raised the XLV Rattrays Sikhs by wrestling village champions in the Punjab. The Regiment has the oldest or one of the oldest Sikh pipe bands.
Also because of this Sikh connection Harbinder Singh Ranner worked with us to set up the Scottish leg of the Anglo Sikh Heritage Trail. The Sri Damesh Malaysian Sikh Pipe Band playing at several of the venues where the young Maharaj Duleep Singh would have known. The young Maharaj was known as the Black Prince of Perthshire.
