Off of Old Harding Road lies 577 acres of open grassland, a natural habitat that nearby residents are determined to protect. Locals fear that a proposed private club and road course could endanger the area's wildlife and disrupt the rural community of Fernvale in Williamson County.

Gill Murrey, a multigenerational landowner and former operator of Whippoorwill Farm Day Camp, is one of the voices leading the opposition.

"We also want to send a message that this community is not just a rich playground for people who have fancy cars," Murrey said.

The planned all-inclusive club would feature two 3-mile road courses for private driving, shooting ranges for shotguns and pistols, spa facilities, libraries, observatories, and a clubhouse with overnight accommodations.

Residents are also questioning the development’s nonprofit status.
