This session introduces a curriculum framework for integrating intellectual property (IP)
education into academic library instruction through cross-campus collaboration. Drawing on the
University of Tennessee Libraries’ recent designation as a Patent & Trademark Resource
Center (PTRC), the presentation explores how business librarians can serve as strategic
partners in entrepreneurial ecosystems. The framework emphasizes real-world application,
entrepreneurial literacies, and scalable programming that reinforces the library’s role in career
and knowledge development.

Participants will learn how to design instruction that blends IP literacy with business information
literacy, supporting students pursuing nontraditional career paths such as entrepreneurship and
freelancing. The session will highlight four instructional modules: Information for Innovation,

Legal Literacies for Entrepreneurs, Critical Career Literacies, and Library as Innovation Partner-
each adaptable for workshops, credit-bearing courses, or co-curricular initiatives.

Attendees will leave with practical strategies for building sustainable collaborations across
campus units such as business schools, entrepreneurship centers, and research foundations.
The session will also address implementation challenges and offer assessment tools including
reflection journals, resource maps, and longitudinal engagement tracking.
