International. To commemorate such a milestone in Grenada’s cultural landscape, we proudly present the first installation of the Trilogy Series: MOSS International: GOLDEN COLLECTION - Volume 1: La Baye Music.

MOSS International: GOLDEN COLLECTION, 3 volume set album, seeks to highlight the many facets of MOSS International’s musical catalogue. Volume 1: La Baye Music, spotlights the band's unique interpretation on the sound of the French Caribbean known as Zouk, which was fused into what is now referred to as “LaBaye MuZiK”. The first installment of this trilogy set album, feature's mega hits, Join Hands, Dance The Night Away, Sweet Lawve, Too Hot plus 8 more timeless classics.
The Grenadian band M.O.S.S International is highlighted as the vehicle that advanced an indigenous part of Grenada’s culture. They essentially created a musical subgenre that has had a major impact on the Caribbean’s musical landscape and on our cultural history.
M.O.S.S’ 1991 smash hit and Grenada’s 1991 road march winner, JAMBALASEE RULE, marked the first time in Grenada’s history that the indigenous goat-skin drums, conch shells and jab-chants (Jab Spelling) of J’ouvert morning had made their way into a recording studio and onto a record. Thus marking the official birth of the musical structuring of JAB JAB MUSIC.
Additionally, the introduction of the digital synthesizer in 1976 by Don Charles and M.O.S.S International yet again transformed an industry that was lagging in an outdated analog world.
Don was always in the forefront of technology and introduced the synthesizer on the local musical market. His introduction of the use of the synthesizer gave birth to the digitalization of our sound and forever changed the sound of Grenadian music.
The restructuring of the Calypso tent scene between 1981 to 1988 with the
successful execution and implementation of the “Kalypso Kastle '' by M.O.S.S saw the emergence of live band music, the standard use of structured written music sheets and uniformed musical performances.
Additionally, the “Kalypso Kastle” provided to be an avenue for local talent and interested persons alike to develop and harness their musical composition skills, songwriting skills and sound engineering abilities via hands-on and theoretical opportunities via M.O.S.S International’s studio, St. Andrew, Grenada.
The founding members of the band recognized the need to build the first recording studio on the island, in a time when recordings were done via the radio station and in some cases, studios in the region, with special emphasis on Barbados.
This period is widely considered by many as the renaissance period of Grenadian music as the development of the music took an international, structural approach.
The “Kalypso Kastle” housed the likes of Timpo (1981 Calypso monarch and road march winner), The African Teller, Mr. Dee, The Signing Emcee”, The Black Wizard, Randy Isaac, Squeezie (1987 road march winner), Darius, Titus (1978 road march winner via “Super Tent” which was converted to the “Kalypso Kastle” in 1981) plus many more. The aforementioned were all produced, recorded, mixed, mastered, managed and led by the core and founding members of M.O.S.S International.
Needless to say, the accumulation of many Calypso monarchs, road march titles, influential hit songs and a dynamic shift towards a global standardization of the local music market.
The contributions made by M.OS.S International on the cultural landscape of Grenada is immeasurable. The band's core and founding members were successful in their deliberate attempt to change the format and structure of the local music industry at the time and aided in its evolution.
Simply put, MOSS International: GOLDEN COLLECTION Tribology Series is a music collector’s must have.
