Touch lamps were very popular at one point but they lost popularity because the stopped working. If you go to a thrift store you will probably encounter a touch lamp.

So how do you fix it? There is a control board in the base that normally is the problem. It is also possible there is a bad wire or a faulty socket. In this video the socket had a bug stuck in it and I blew it out with compressed air. This caused the module to short out and overheat.
