Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - Trailer (2018)

Ever since I saw this trailer    • MODERN TRAILER – Star Trek II: The Wr...   I was inspired to create my own modern trailers for not just Star Trek but other films. But it has always been the Trek ones I have had the most fun creating.

The one above from Orange Band I hold in very high regard. I was blown away by the work put into adapting Wrath of Khan with current editing sensibilities. I held it in such high regard that I didn't think I would ever touch a Wrath of Khan modern trailer because I didn't think I could even come close to the mark it set.

But then I found an angle in the story I wanted to focus on for a trailer. There is a sub genre in movies unofficially called "People From Hell." These are films like The Hand that Rocks the Cradle, Unlawful Entry, Lakewood Terrace, etc. where, quite frankly, people are just straight evil and willing to go to whatever lengths to destroy another person.

Khan fits this criteria well, albeit he is definitely a very calculating, very nuanced villain. I would never characterize him as a one dimensional heel. However, he goes to extreme lengths for revenge. That is what I wanted to focus on. I wanted to sell Wrath of Khan as an intense Sci-Fi revenge story where it seems like Kirk, in particular, is pushed beyond his limits by someone who will stop at nothing to destroy him. We know the big moments in Khan, particularly in the third act. I avoided those as best I could so that if this was your entry into the movie, you'd still find a lot of cool moments and nuance not given away in the trailer. I hope you enjoy!
