Our Benson Loop adventure started just outside of Bridgeport, Ca. in Twin Lakes. There is a small fee to park vehicles there, but there are restrooms and water is available.

This is a challenging backpacking trip that takes you over several relatively high mountain passes. We didn't see too many other people on our trip. Bugs weren't too bad, but my guess is that they can be quite thick at times so be prepared. Ample water all along the trail, except on the high passes. The trail is quite rugged, especially on the descent from Benson Pass going clockwise. Most of the time you are either ascending or descending.

The highlight of the trip is Benson Lake which has a huge beach. We camped right on the beach and it was wonderful. The scenery on the entire loop is spectacular.

Lots of exposed areas along the trail so bring your sunscreen or keep yourself well covered. Bring a bear canister since bears are everywhere. That being said, we didn't see any :)

The lakes are really cold but quite refreshing if you want to take a swim.

Look for established camping areas. There are signs indicating where you should NOT camp at the various lakes.

We had smoke-free skies for most of our trip, but the Oak Fire exploded just as we were finishing our trip and our final day was a bit hazy.
