On this day in 1952 Charlie Chaplin and his family returned to England for the first time in 21 years. British Movietone follows the Chaplin family on their return to Charlie’s home town.

When the "Queen Elizabeth" arrived at Southampton, she brought Charlie Chaplin back to the old country again after a long absence. With his wife, Oona, and two of their four children, he posed for the newsreel cameras on board. They received a great welcome at Waterloo before they left by car for the Savoy Hotel.
