Indian Meteorological Department predicts light showers in Kerala for the next 48 hours. The low pressure area developed over the Karnataka coast is said to not affect Kerala. There is no alert sounded in any of the districts of the southern state. Meanwhile, rains are expected to strengthen in the central and northern Kerala. At the same time the shutter of Idukki dam that was opened to release excessive water was closed by the authority on Tuesday. They were closed due to low water flow. The water level of the dam currently is 2399.10 ft. The third shutter of the dam was opened on Sunday. Meanwhile educational institutions were given holiday on Wednesday in Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha regions by the district authorities. The holiday was announced for educational institutions in Kuttanad, Mavelikkara and Chengannur in Alappuzha and in Adoor and Thiruvalla taluks in Pathanamthitta. The schools where relief camps were opened were given holiday, said officials.
