Hey guys! 👋 You are NOT going to BELIEVE what happened! 🤯 In today's video, we're tackling a SERIOUS case of horse hoof rot. Now, I gotta warn you, this one is PRETTY graphic (hence the warning!), so if you're squeamish, maybe grab a buddy to watch it with! 🙈 But trust me, it's also incredibly educational and rewarding to see the progress we make. Get ready to witness some serious hoof transformation magic! ✨🐴
Okay, so let me set the scene. We got a call from a local stable about a gorgeous Appaloosa mare named Luna. 🐴 Apparently, she'd been struggling with lameness for a while, and they just couldn't figure out what was wrong. When we arrived, the smell was… well, let's just say it wasn't pleasant. 🤢 After a closer inspection, it was clear Luna was battling a pretty severe case of hoof rot. The frog (that soft, spongy part in the middle of the hoof) was practically GONE in some spots, and there was definitely some black, smelly gunk. 😖 My heart absolutely broke for this sweet girl. She was clearly in pain, and you could just see the discomfort in her eyes. 🥺
Now, hoof rot is basically a bacterial infection that thrives in wet, muddy conditions. Think of it like athlete's foot, but for horses! 👟 It eats away at the hoof tissue, causing pain, lameness, and if left untreated, can even lead to more serious complications. Thankfully, we were on the case! 💪 First things first, we had to carefully clean out all the infected areas. This involved using a hoof pick, a wire brush, and lots and LOTS of elbow grease. It was definitely a messy job, but it was essential to remove all the dead and decaying tissue so we could get to the healthy hoof underneath. 🧼 We even had to use a special hoof knife to carefully pare away some of the overgrown frog. 🔪
Then came the treatment! We used a powerful antiseptic solution specifically designed for hoof rot, making sure to get it deep into all the crevices and affected areas. It's important to use a product that kills the bacteria and helps to dry out the hoof. We also packed the affected areas with medicated cotton to keep the area clean and prevent further infection. We'll be repeating this treatment daily, along with keeping Luna in a clean, dry environment, to give her the best chance of recovery! ☀️ We also talked to the stable owners about improving drainage in the paddocks and ensuring the horses' hooves are regularly cleaned and inspected. Prevention is key! 🔑
The best part? Even after just ONE treatment, Luna was already showing signs of improvement! 🎉 She seemed much more comfortable putting weight on her hoof, and she even gave me a little nuzzle. 🥰 It's moments like these that make all the hard work worth it. We're so excited to continue working with Luna and help her get back to her happy, healthy self! Stay tuned for updates on her progress! We'll be posting more videos showing her recovery journey. This is going to be awesome! 🤩🔥
