The Rains Are Here! & Baby Elephant Khanyisa Gets a Weigh In!

The rains have returned to our wilderness and the little green shoots are already showing up across the reserve. This is such great news as the promise of lush vegetation for all the animals is finally here. Enjoy a beautiful double rainbow over the homestead, as Khanyisa is surrounded by mother and daughter, Tokwe and Limpopo. The other elephants stay under the canopy, out of the rain.

Khanyisa gets a weigh in, to monitor her growth and progress with this big change in her life. We expected her to drop some weight initially with moving to the homestead as it can cause some change to her routine and eating, and then for her to start to pick up again, and this is exactly what we've seen. As we weaned her off night bottles so she could join the big herd in the homestead at night, she did start to drop some weight as she adapted. But this weigh in shows she is picking up weight again and we are so glad to see it. She is drinking her bottles well and simply adjusting beautifully. Watch as she meets up with her old orphanage carers, Stavros and Reply for some morning munchies of sweet potatoes, pellets and apples, with Pisa coming to visit close by.
