Arriving in UK | Things to do | Settling in London | Moving vlog

Transitioning to a new country can be challenging - there are no instructions or any user manual you can follow!
In this video, we'll show you the things we did during our first week in London. We'll also share some first-hand tips 🙂

✅ SIM cards - UK sim can be bought at convenience stores/telco providers (even in Heathrow airport). Also check sellers in your home country since it's convenient to have it upon landing (we've purchased one from Philippines).

✅ Phone's settings - Make sure to change the region/country in both Settings & App store/Playstore as some apps won't install if region/country/payment is not set to UK.

✅ UK phone apps - We found grocery rewards apps (Tesco, M&S sparks, Boots, Co-op, Morrisons, Waitrose, Asda, Aldi, Lidl, TianTian) to be most useful as it carries perks/discounts/points.
❖ Food delivery: Deliveroo, JustEat, Ubereats (or check delivery directly from the shops)
❖ Navigation: Citymapper for transportation & Google maps for walking
❖ Flat hunting: Rightmove & Zoopla
💡Tip: Save some ££ by checking the loyalty/rewards program of your favourite coffee shop/restaurant as most shops have this. Some stores even give you a treat on your birthday!

✅ Oyster Cards - Debit & Credit cards can also be used as mode of payment. Download the TfL Oyster app and link your debit/credit card so that 'capping' will be applied to your fare (travelling between zones in London has max fare caps).

✅ Bank account: Using your card form your home country can be costly. During our first few days, we opened our accounts via digital banks/e-money platforms as it is the easiest to open after arrival (Revolut, Monzo, Wise). We still opened our bank accounts in high street banks for our debit and credit cards.

✅** National Insurance (NI) number: NI number is used in the administration of the National Insurance/social security system in the UK. It is also used for some purposes in the UK tax system.

✅** Register with NHS/GP: You need to be registered with a General Practitioner/Doctor in the area where you live. GPs are the first medical point of contact with the NHS.

**We actually did this on the succeeding weeks after arrival but it would be helpful to include this here.
