Armageddon Turk’s Orkun Τunç | World-famous producer, punk legend

This week on Pop & Politics we are joined by musician and producer Orkun Tunç. In conversation with Kenan Behzat Sharpe, he discusses his project Armageddon Turk, the influence of Anatolia on his music, the international response from international musicians to the February 2023 earthquake, the history of punk in Turkey, and his influences from Spike Lee to Abidin Dino.

Tunç is best known for his work under the moniker Armageddon Turk, a production team between Istanbul and London with Zag Erlat. Armageddon Turk has has released two well-received albums: Anadolu Lo-Fi and Sorry Kid, A Human Made This. Starting off playing with local punk and hardcore bands like Turmoil and Rashit, my guest has collaborated or made remixes for names like Janet Jackson, Sezen Aksu, Gulden Karaböcek, Gorillaz, Pet Shop Boys, and others. He also won a Turkish Film Critics Association award for best film music.
