“I'm honored to share the impactful Keynote speech video of H.E. Dr. GUETA SELEMANE CHAPO, The First Lady of Mozambique & Ambassador of Merck Foundation “More Than a Mother” delivered during the inauguration of the 7th Merck Foundation First Ladies Initiative Summit 2025.

She expressed, "It is a great honor to attend the 7th Edition of the Merck Foundation First Ladies Initiative (MFFLI) Summit as Guest of Honor, alongside my dear sisters — the esteemed First Ladies of Africa and Asia.

As this marks my very first appearance, having recently assumed the role of First Lady of Mozambique, I am truly impressed by the impactful programs of the Merck Foundation. It is inspiring to hear firsthand from my fellow First Ladies about the remarkable achievements they have realized in their respective countries through their partnership with Merck Foundation.

Till today, 18 scholarships have been provided for our Mozambican doctors from different provinces across the country.

Out of the 18 scholarships, 15 scholarships have been provided as a part of Merck Foundation’s Nationwide Diabetes Blue Points Program, for PG Diploma in Endocrinology and the Online Diabetes Master course, endorsed by Diabetes UK.
What makes it even more impactful is that the course has been made available in Portuguese, ensuring accessibility and relevance for our local doctors.
These doctors will play a vital role in raising awareness about the prevention and early detection of diabetes which is very important.

Additionally, 3 Scholarships has been provided for one year PG Diploma in Acute Medicine, Infectious diseases, and Pain Management. All of these areas are of great importance to us, considering the limited number of experts in our public healthcare system.

I am committed to scale up the programs in my country.

My dear sisters, I am excited to walk this path alongside you all and to partner closely with the Merck Foundation in driving meaningful and lasting change across our country and beloved continent."
