There are small white worms in my raspberries. I took the red raspberry fruit and opened it and found a white small larva - when she ran out of the fruit she died in the sunlight - they do not tolerate sunshine. Always put blackberries or raspberries in a bowl of salted water (not too salty) and hopefully anything nasty floated to the top, then drain and dry. White worms in raspberries can be the larva from the Spotted Wing Drosophila, a nasty cousin of a regular fruit fly. Spotted wing drosophila, a member of the vinegar fly genus. inspect pest.-

Recently while picking raspberries I noticed tiny white worms inside many of the berries, the worms are white and less than 1/8" long, there were several in some of the berries. There were also black bugs on some of the berries that had 4 spots on there back. - If you are finding little white worms in the berry itself it may be Spotted wing drosophila [SWD] larvae; SWD are fruit flies that cut a slit in the fruit and lay their eggs and when the eggs hatch the larvae eat the fruit from the inside. The insect you see with the 4 spots may be a sap or picnic beetle. The most common picnic beetle (family Nitidulidae) is a small (¼ inch long), black insect with four yellowish-orange spots on the back. Adult beetles are attracted to all types of overripe and decaying fruit. Although not attracted to ripe, undamaged raspberries, these can be damaged once picnic beetles are in the garden. Raspberry beetle - The grubs of raspberry beetle damage the fruits of raspberry, blackberry and other cane fruits and is the most serious pest of these plants. See more: https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile...

The brown adult beetles lay eggs on the flowers from May through to the middle of July; these eggs hatch and the yellow-brown, brown-headed larvae begin feeding at the stalk end of the developing fruit before making their way inside – these are the maggots you discover in the fruit, and the distortion and discoloration of the fruit is a direct result of this pest. The larvae feed on the developing fruit for around a month before returning to the soil in late summer to pupate; adults emerge from the pupae in the autumn but remain in the soil until the following spring. As you, like ourselves, garden organically, the following control measures are acceptable. See more: https://www.harrodhorticultural.com/t...

The small, white worms are likely the larvae of the spotted wing drosophila. Spotted wing drosophila adults are small, yellowish brown flies. Males have distinctive dark spots on their wings, hence the name spotted wing drosophila. Female adults have serrated, saw-like ovipositors and lay eggs in soft, ripening fruit. Spotted wing drosophila larvae are white, 1/8 inch long maggots. Spotted wing drosophila feed on soft, thin-skinned fruit. Their preferred food choices are raspberries (especially fall cultivars), blackberries, and blueberries. However, they also feed on grapes, strawberries, cherries, and aronia. The female has a ovipositor that resembles a saw blade, that is able to penetrate ripening fruit and lay eggs. The eggs hatch into maggots about the time fruit is ripe and ready for harvest and consumption. See more:    • Spotted Wing Drosophila in Small Fruits
