Ego is a word that crops up frequently in psychedelic discourse, usually in regards to "ego death" as a result of a psychedelic experience, or as an insult to imply that someone isn't enlightened enough.

Ego death in particular is fetishised by many who use psychedelics as being some kind of ultimate endgame which will bring about the much elusive state of enlightenment. Having been through such an experience myself I find this line of thinking extremely basic, and indicates a misunderstanding of the language we are using.

Before throwing my opinion into the mix I wanted to make sure I had my own thoughts straight so I brought in someone who is an expert on the psychological concepts we use when discussing such things. Enter my friend Mackenzie Amara who is a Jungian psychoanalyst in training at the International School of Analytical Psychology Zurich.
