I continue to be impressed by the quality of the talent that Jeannie Reid and her Music City North team are introducing me to. I managed to catch a set at the Central on opening night of the Bloor Street festival and was quite impressed by the first act - Sidney Delong. She is 5'2 with stilts on, but sings with a power that belies her age. This young lady has a powerful set of lungs, and a tremendous stage presence. Her style is that of a theatre chanteuse who commands an audience. A brief Google search indicates she was up for "Young Performer of the Year" - which is surprising - not that she is up for "best" but that she has been defined in the folk genre. It's kind of like defining Lady Gaga as a country singer. But, she's young and talented and should be defying classification for a long time.
