Historic Staffordshire Walk - Holly Bush Salt - Hopton Heath & Tinkerboro

This short 3.5 mile walk starts at the Historic Holly Bush in the Staffordshire village of Salt.
The pub is one of the oldest in England reputedly the second oldest licenced premises, dating back to the 12th century and originally granted a licence by Charles 2nd. The pub has recently been refurbished and offers great food and a good selection of beer and ales.
This walk takes us through the village and out over the civil war battle ground of Hopton Heath where the Royalists and parliamentarians clashed on the 19th March 1643. We then loop round past some stone circles and before turning back towards Salt in search of the mystical Hamlet of Tinkerboro.
Back in the village we pass the church of StJames the great which dates back to 1840 and is built in the Tudor Gothic style, before heading back to the Holly Bush for some well earned refreshment.
It was a lovely walk on a windy but sunny winters afternoon. The route is easy apart from one sharp climb on the way out, and of course there is a visit to the pub to look forward to at the end.
