Jimmy Ngammminlun Mate, a soldier from #Manipur serving in the 5th Assam Regiment and originally from #Sahumphai, was tragically swept away by torrential flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir’s #Chenab River on the night of August 28.

His unit was forced to retreat as flooding submerged their post, and amid the chaos he disappeared in the dark currents.

Rescue efforts continued for nearly 24 hours until his body was found around 3:00 pm on August 29.

Jimmy’s death is especially devastating for his family, who were already displaced by ethnic conflict in Manipur and living as Internally Displaced Persons in Churachandpur’s NS Khojamphai Village. Their loss poignantly highlights the compounded sorrows borne by displaced communities.
