One of the main strengths in Drupal is the ability to create content types that represent something you want on your site (for example, "event", "article", etc) and put custom fields on them.

Whether its creating a blog, a Views-powered slideshow, or pretty much anything you could imagine... understanding how to create custom content types in Drupal is an essential skill to have!

In this presentation Jason Gordon will be discussing content types and fields in 3 parts:

• Content strategy: creating useful, usable content. We will also look at some example content models as well as ordering importance of fields in a hierarchy.

• Live tutorial: Now that we know the basics, we can look at creating custom content in the Drupal admin interface. We will be creating a business blog-like content type with taxonomy.

• Advanced field modules tutorial: For the themers in the room, there are a few modules that can further extend fields in Drupal 7. These can be helpful when you hit pain points in a project. Sometimes grouping and/or injecting CSS into the content directly can be helpful.

This primarily a beginner and intermediate talk, but even people who have used Drupal for a long time can benefit from learning more about content strategy and maybe a few modules you haven't heard of.
