Malloura is located approximately 4.5 kms southwest of the village of Athienou.

Since 1990, archaeological excavations have been carried out at the site of Malloura by an American mission (Athienou Archaeological Project) under the supervision of Dr. Michalis K. Toumazos, Professor of Archeology at Davidson University in North Carolina in USA.

The work of the archaeological mission is an interdisciplinary project, which focuses on the archaeological site of Athienou - Mallouras and the surrounding valley in south-central Cyprus.

To date, a rural sanctuary, rock-hewn tombs and a settlement have been identified in the area, dating from the Geometric to the Roman period. Venetian remains were also found
