The Bangladesh quota movement refers to a series of significant protests and demonstrations that primarily took place in 2018 and resurfaced in 2024. These protests were led by students and job seekers who demanded changes to the government job quota system. At the time, 56% of government positions were reserved for specific groups, including descendants of freedom fighters, women, and ethnic minorities. Protesters argued that this system was inequitable and pushed for a reduction of the quotas to 10%, with the rest of the positions filled based on merit. The movement quickly gained widespread support, leading the government to announce a review and implement reforms to the quota system. In this video, I will explain how this protest began and evolved.
