Diagonal trades are designed to be managed over time — often with multiple short legs sold against a longer-term option. One of the core principles of a diagonal is the potential to repeatedly sell premium, working to reduce the original net debit and improve overall return.
But with several short contracts layered in over weeks or even months, how do you accurately track profitability? How can you tell whether the trade is truly performing — or just looks like it is?
In today’s session, I walked through four potential methods for tracking diagonal performance so you can evaluate your real P/L with clarity and confidence. We also reviewed and managed our current example positions and added two new example long vertical trades to the portfolio.
