** Update version of the first 2 movements -- see    • Mendelssohn Unfinished Symphony No. 6...   **

In 1845 while living in Frankfurt Felix Mendelssohn was working on 2 wonderful movements for a 6th symphony in C-Major (shortly before he begann working on his Elias oratorion and in the same year when Schumann wrote his 2nd symphony, also in C-Major). For the first movement a full score of the first 2 miunutes exist and furthermore sketches for further passages .The beginning always reminds me of a bright new morning. This fascinated me so much that I tried to complete this to a whole symphony. After bar 79 I made use of Mendelssohn's sketches which I marked in yellow colour.

I also completed the wonderful and very melodious sketches (for the first 2:50 minutes, also marked in yellow) for an Andante cantabile movement.

Movements 3 and 4 are orchestrations of Mendelssohn's awesome but only little known string quartet movements op. 81,2 and 81,3 (theTrio of the Scherzo being the slow introduction of 81.3) from about the same time. The Scherzo is similiar to his Scherzo from the Midsummers Dream, but I like this even more. For the Finale I added an own second theme (variation of the main theme) and a majestic ending where I pick up the main theme of the first movement again.

This is the first presentation of how a 6th symphony by Mendelssohn roughly might have looked like if he had finished it. For me working on this project has been one of the most satisfying works of my life...

Recorded digitally with NotePerformer, but I wish the day will come where this might be performed by a real orchestra ...
