Using Suehiro's Cerax

Описание к видео Using Suehiro's Cerax

The #1000 cerax stone is the cornerstone of Suehiro's range and possibly the company's most popular stone. It's easy to understand why. It's got a lovely feel, somewhat softer than most other thousand stones, and leaves a beautiful matte finish on whatever steel you're working.

Because it's fairly soft, it's quite easy to use and is capable of removing material aggressively, but the tradeoff is that the cerax will go out of flat faster than other stones. At the same time, it is easier to bring back to flat than harder stones, so as long as you have a tool to flatten with, it's possible to use this as an advantage and minimise the drawbacks.

We find the #1000 cerax perfect for rehoning woodworking tools and knives during or following regular use. After finding the bevel again on the 1,000 a chisel can be put back to work if fine cuts aren't required. For finer work it's either a simple two-stone process stepping up to a 3,000 or 6,000, or a three stone process from the one, up to the 3,000 and then the 8,000.
