In this beginner swimming lesson video my 18 month old son swims underwater for the first time. This was filmed on a family holiday in the hotel swimming pool.

I have been a swim instructor for 15 years and am so excited to be able to teach my son this important life skill. It is so important to start swimming lessons when they are young so their confidence can grow as they do.

Teaching a baby to swim means breaking down the fundamental skills into bite size fun activities for them to take part in. During this lesson I teach my son how to go underwater in a swimming pool using his very important verbal cues so that he is able to hold his breath. The most important aspect of learning how to swim underwater is breath control and I cannot stress enough the importance of practicing your childs verbal phrase with them before taking them underwater. These lesson plans can be adapted for swimming lessons for kids and swimming lessons for toddlers. Your child swimming journey will be long and it may takes them a few years for them to go from being a beginner to where they are able to learn to swim freestyle.

Whenever teaching a child how to swim you want them to be happy and comfortable in the swimming pool first so always spend a lot of your time playing and exploring the environment before trying to teach them the various swimming techniques.
