International joint research to compare the mega sporting events held in succession in Japan and France

The threat of the new coronavirus as forced the Olympic and Paralympic Games to be postponed for the first time in history. However, Japan’s « Golden Sports Years » have arrived as a result of hosting the 2019 Rugby World Cup, the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games (postponed to 2021), and the 2021 Kansai World Masters Games. After Japan celebrates its first ever Golden Sports Years, mega sporting events such as the 2023 Rugby World Cup and the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics will be held in succession in France (the 2025 World Masters Games will be held in Taiwan as Paris lost the bid to host). There is now a need for international joint research to compare the mega sporting events held in succession in Japan and France. Osaka (Japan) and Val d’Oise (France) are friendly exchange cities, and the Osaka Kansai Expo will be held in 2025. The Expo could be viewed from the perspective of a mega event, paying particular attention to the environment and sports activities for young people.

新型コロナウィルスによる脅威がオリンピック・パラリンピック競技大会を史上初となる延期へと追い込んだ。しかし、日本において、2019年ラグビーワールドカップ、2020年には東京オリンピック・パラリンピック競技大会（2021年へ延期）、2021年には関西ワールドマスターズゲームズという「ゴールデンスポーツイヤーズ」が到来している。日本が史上初となるスポーツゴールデンスポーツイヤーズを迎えた後、フランスにおいて2023年ラグビーワールドカップ、2024年パリオリンピック・パラリンピックというメガスポーツイベントが連続して開催される（2025年ワールドマスターズゲームズ台湾、パリは落選）。今、日本とフランスにおいて連続して開催されるメガスポーツイベントを国際比較する共同研究が求められている。大阪府とフランス・ヴァル＝ドワーズ県は友好交流都市であり、2025年には大阪・関西万博が開催される。メガイベントの観点からも注視できる。特に、環境、若者におけるスポーツ活動は重要となってくるだろう。
